New page

ru:Создание и изменение лейаутов en:Creating and Editing Layouts
A layout is a rectangular area on the Mapping field within which effects play. Layouts let you run different animations on different parts of an object within a single composition: a running text on a building's frieze, color washes on the columns, flashes on the roof. Layouts are created once for the entire project and are immediately available in all of its compositions, while which effects lie in each layout is set separately in each composition.

Main and Additional Layouts
Every project always has a main layout — Main layout. It coincides with the entire Mapping work field: it cannot be deleted, cannot be dragged or resized with the mouse, and its width and height are the size of the field itself (how to change it is described below in the "Work Field Size" section). If no other layout is selected before adding an effect, the effect goes right into the Main layout.

There can be any number of additional layouts. They can be of any size — from the entire field down to a single pixel — can overlap each other, lie one inside another, and be positioned anywhere on the field. New layouts are named Layout001, Layout002 and so on; the name can be changed.

An effect always fills its entire layout: its image is stretched to the layout's width and height and does not go beyond its boundaries. That's why the same effect looks different in a narrow layout versus a wide one, and fixtures only "see" the layouts whose boundaries they fall within.

Creating a Layout
# In the Mapping window, select the Create Layout tool (the same action is available via the Edit → Create Layout menu).
# Left-click at the location where the first corner of the layout will be.
# Move the mouse aside — a green frame will show the future boundaries — and click a second time. The layout is created on the second click.

The boundaries are rounded to whole field pixels; the minimum layout size is 1×1 pixel. The new layout immediately appears both on the Mapping field and as a separate track in the Timeline, and its parameters open in the Properties window — you can set exact coordinates and size right there.

If you miss while drawing, it's not a problem: both the position and the size of the layout can be changed at any time.

Selecting, Moving, and Resizing
Layouts are selected with the Select and Edit Effects tool — the one selected by default in the Mapping window (fixtures cannot be selected with it, so you won't accidentally move them). Click on the edge of the layout or on its label on the field: the selected layout is highlighted in orange, and its name is shown next to it.

* Move — drag the layout's orange marker.
* Resize — drag any of its corners.
* Ctrl+F — stretch the selected layout to the entire work field.
* Set exact values — in the Properties window (see the next section).

If the selection is lost after clicking elsewhere, select the layout again on its track in the Timeline — after that it becomes available for editing on the field again.

When a layout is resized, all effects inside it are automatically recalculated for the new size. The Main layout does not move or scale on the field.

Layout Properties
The parameters of the selected layout are shown in the Properties window. The General section:

Parameter !! What it sets
Blend Mode || How the layout's content is composited over what's beneath it. The list is the same as for effects — see Режимы смешивания. Set for the current composition.
Position X, Position Y || Coordinates of the layout's top-left corner in pixels of the Mapping field.
Width, Height || Layout size in pixels.
Apply || Applies the specified dimensions and recalculates the effects inside the layout to match.

For the Main layout, the position cannot be changed, while Width and Height change the size of the entire work field — this is the same as setting the main layout's size in the program settings.

Layout Background Image
You can place a background image in a layout — for example, a photo of a facade or a structural drawing — to help position fixtures over it. The image is drawn within the layout's boundaries beneath the fixtures and does not take part in the animation: it has no effect on export to cue files.

The settings are gathered in the Background section of the Properties window:

Parameter !! What it does
Show Image || Turns the image display on and off. Turns on automatically when a file is selected.
File Name || The Open button — select the image file. After selection, the button shows the path to it. Images with a transparent background are also supported.
Resampling Mode || How the image is scaled to fit the layout: Automatic — with smoothing, Nearest Neighbor (hard edges) — without smoothing, with sharp pixels.
Offset X, Offset Y || Shift of the image within the layout.
Scale X, Scale Y || Stretching of the image horizontally and vertically. A value of 1 is the original size.
Refresh || Re-reads the file from disk. Useful if the image was edited in an external editor without closing the project.

The file itself is not embedded in the project — only the path to it is saved. If you need to move the project to another computer, collect it using the File → Collect Project command: background images will be placed in the common folder along with the other project files.

Layouts on the Timeline
Each layout occupies a separate track on the Timeline, containing the effects of that layout in the current composition. Working with layouts here works as follows:

* Selection. The selected layout is highlighted with a lighter fill. A new effect from the Effects Library is added to the selected layout; if nothing is selected, it goes into the Main layout. For details, see Добавление эффекта в композицию.
* Order. Layout tracks can be reordered by dragging. The order determines compositing: if a full-screen effect from one layout covers the others, swap the layouts. The Main layout can also be moved below any other layout.
* Renaming. Right-click a layout → Rename.
* Deleting. Right-click a layout → Delete. Deleting a layout also deletes the effects it contains in all compositions. The Main layout cannot be deleted. The action can be undone with Ctrl+Z.
* Collapsed state. A layout's track can be collapsed to keep it out of the way; the program remembers this state separately for each composition and saves it in the project.

You can drag an effect from one layout to another right on the timeline — see Moving Effects Between Layouts.

Keep in mind that layouts themselves are shared across the entire project: after creating a layout in one composition, you'll see its track in all the others too — empty until you place effects into it.

Work Field Size
The size of the Mapping field is the size of the main layout. It is set as follows:

# Open Settings → Properties (Ctrl+P).
# In the Mapping section, click the Main Layout Size button — the current size in pixels is shown next to it.
# In the window that opens, set the Width and Height and click OK.

If the new field is smaller than the previous one and some layouts extend beyond its boundaries, the program will ask: "Crop layouts to the reduced size?". Yes — layouts will be trimmed to the new field boundaries; No — they will keep their previous size, but part of them will end up outside the field and won't work. Fixtures placed outside the work field's boundaries do not play back animation.

It's best to set the field size at the start of work on a project, before placing fixtures and creating layouts: the larger the field, the more detailed the image, but the greater the load on the computer when calculating effects.

Good to Know
* Layouts are shared across the entire project; the content of layouts is specific to each composition.
* Fixtures are not bound to layouts: a fixture receives the color of the field pixel it stands on. It's enough for a layout to cover the needed fixtures.
* If the Main layout contains a full-field effect, effects in other layouts may not be visible — remove that effect, reduce its opacity, or change the layout order.
* Layout boundaries are only visible within the program: they don't appear in the 3D preview, in cue files, or on the fixtures.
